An excercise in patience, persistance, and, some other p words.

I think bands are frickin lazy.

And I'm frickin lazy as well. As far back as primary school I'd always put things off until right the last second. Highschool was the worst, doing a massive assignment the night before it was due, or putting off learning/practising a piece of music for an exam. There was always so much time, I used to travel 50 minutes on the bus on the way to school, and 50 minutes on the way back. Weekends, weeknights, mornings...I just used to piss the time away I suppose.

But how do you train yourself to stop wasting time? Man, those Youtube videos aren't going to watch themselves. And those "what Muppets character are you?" quizzes on Facebook aren't going to just fill out on their own either.

But I digress. Bands in the 70's had such primitive recording equipment by today's standards, and yet they were able to put out albums at least once a year. Queen put out 7 albums over the course of 6 years. Deep Purple smashed out 10 albums in 8 years! Zappa released 4 albums in 1979!!!

I guess these guys were incredibly focused and patient. I also think that, at least in the case of Deep Purple, they had record companies on their back to keep churning out stuff.

See, I used to take the typical lame artist route and think "Art cannot be forced! You have to sit around and when it beams itself from the heavens above.." etc. What bullshit. One of the things that got me motivated to start this thing was a Roald Dahl biography. Apparently he'd sit and write for 2 hours in the morning, and 2 hours in the evening. Regardless of if he had any particular idea or not, he commited himself to that. See, I think that's just fantastic, and I guess I don't have to inform you of how brilliant Dahl is, so it wasn't like he was just churning out rubbish.

Plus, his writing hut has shit everywhere, which is something I can certainly relate to.

So two in the moning, and two in the night eh? I'm going to give it a shot.
